Match Report

Exe Ladies 1st Team hosted league leaders Surbiton in their first match of the second half of the season after a long mid-season break. Surbiton started the game strongly, putting a lot of early pressure on Exe’s defence but, with some excellent saves from Hope Kent in goal, they were denied a score until just before the end of the first quarter when a chance deflection was tipped in at the near post. The visitors were 1-0 up but it was Exe who then put on plenty of attacking pressure of their own. Exe were awarded a penalty corner on the half time whistle and were rewarded with a successful deflection by Caitlin Searle from Ruby Jarman’s strike to take the score to 1-1. The second half was equally well-contested with both sides posing a threat to their opponents goals but, after an exciting 35 minutes, neither team could break the deadlock. The match ended 1-1, a great result for Exe in particular who remain second in the league.  Next week they travel to Bristol University hoping to grab three points and extend their unbeaten start to 2020.
