Match Report

Exe Ladies 1st Team travelled to Birmingham University hoping to build on last week’s home win and claim three more important points. Both teams started the game at high tempo but it was Exe who took the lead early in the first quarter with a great solo effort from Emily Mitchem. She followed this up minutes later when she put away an excellent cross from Nicole Van Oosterum to double the lead to 2-0. A clinical short corner drag flick from Ruby Jarman took the score to 3-0 and the game seemed beyond Birmingham’s reach. However, the hosts rallied and scored a good breakaway goal to go into half time 3-1 down. The second half saw Exe create more good chances but they were unable to extend their lead and Birmingham scored again with five minutes to go to bring the score back to 3-2. Exe held their nerve however and a strong finish to the match allowed them to claim the victory, and the three points they came for.
